January Physical Fitness Homework

Below is your homework for the month of January.  Try to get each one done once or twice a week.

To improve your mile run:
Option 1:  Run 10 laps around your house at the fastest pace as you can.  Be sure to dress warm and have an adult with you!  Try and get this in on non-gym days.
Option 2:  Jump rope 100 times.  Do as many unbroken as possible!
Option 3:  Sprint about 50 yards and jog back to the start 10 times.

To improve your curl-ups:
Before bed or shower time, accumulate 35 curl-ups.  Anchor your feet under a couch, bed or have someone at home hold your feet.

To improve your push-ups:
While watching TV or playing video games, try and hold the top of a push-up for as long as you can either during commercials or between matches.  You can even tell your friends what you are doing through your head set and try to challenge them to a plank-off!

To improve your shuttle run:
Sprint 20 yards as fast as possible, touch the opposite side with your hand, and sprint back.  Do this 5 times, but be sure to take breaks between.

To improve your v-sit & reach:
While watching TV or playing video games, hold a v-sit stretch either sitting OR standing!  Be sure to relax and not stretch too far.

Presidential Physical Fitness Report Card

Your child has just received their Presidential Physical Fitness Report Card.  All students in 1st through 5thgrade were tested on five parts of fitness and were scored based off their performance.  On the back of their report card, you will see a Key which shows minimum requirements in each area of fitness (Pa = Your child has participated in the test, N = National level of fitness, Pr = Presidential level of fitness).  Our goal is to help your child improve their scores, but we need your support and guidance in order for this to be achievable.  Each month, we will be posting optional homework, which is designed to help your child improve in each of the fitness areas when we retest in the Spring.

Thank you for your support.

Your CMS PE Teachers,
Mike Guli & Doug DeMarco

Welcome

Hello and Welcome to the Chester M. Stephens elementary Physical Education blog.  Here you will find information about our program along with announcements and events.

Mr. Guli and Mr. DeMarco's philosophy is to always make sure that our students are maximizing their potential and challenging themselves to do their individual best.  Every day is an opportunity to improve physically, socially and emotionally, and our students will be challenged to work at that.  We are strong believers in instilling respect into our students - respect for each other, respect for their school & community, and most importantly, respect for themselves.

"Let's get after it!"
"Strive for greatness in everything you do."
